Independent and Assisted Relative immigrants

QUESTION:

for Skilled Workers there will be an important distinction between applications received before and after December 17, 2001. Specifically:"
"Independent and Assisted Relative immigrants who apply on or after December 17, 2001 and who have not been interviewed (or have not had their interview waived) before implementation of the new Act will be assessed against the new Skilled Worker regulations and a pass mark of
80."
According to this do I need exactly 80 numbers OR do the immigration officer still has some no.s to give during the interview cycle? Because with the new passing marks, my total comes to about 70 & then I am going to get a job offer from a Canadian employer. That makes a total of 75. Does that mean I am out & I don't qualify? Please help.

ANSWER:

Processing officer will have the discretionary power (with consent of supervisor) to approve applicants with less than a pass mark number of points if in his or her opinion applicants has a very good chance for successful establishment in Canada. But there will be no extra points to be awarded at the interview - if you are getting 70 or 75 that is all what you'll have. Depending from your overall qualifications, skills, abilities, resourcefulness, occupation, financial situation, etc. and how well all of that is presented
(and supported by documents) in your application package you may have a chance, but I would strongly recommend seeking professional assistance if your points score is below pass mark or even if it is a borderline case.
