Can anybody ever plan for something like this Cost Of Nursing Home Care?
QUESTION: I just found out that a couple we have known for many years is no longer able
to care for themselves. She is in a nursing home and he is in a limited care
facility at a total cost of $6,000 a month. That's $72,000 a year, my friends.
Can anybody ever plan for something like this?
ANSWER: answer:Scott Bruns of the Dallas Morning News (column on the web
aomewhere?) stated that unless your name is Gates you will not
have enough money if you live long enough, however there are
loopholes protecting both husband and wife in that in some? or perhaps
all States the Medicaid laws provide that they cannot bankrupt the
spouse and lower their standard of living. Example: I know of a couple who held several credit cards and had
many decades ago placed their property which was paid for in an
off shore trust. He at age 72 was giving his ex wife all of his SS
check and receiving nada, zip.... she was not covered by SS and
extremely crippled and he had alzhiemers. Texas told her that if she
would sign the papers to place him in a care facility they would pay
all and allow here to have both his benefit and keep her private
pension. She refused because it is difficult to part with a life's
mate when one is so crippled. He was somewhat detoured from
returning home after he went with a man to church and left at his
daughters for the night and she got sick and could not clean up
or get anything to eat or drink. A neighbor stopped by to check
on her and ths neighbor cleaned, bathed, cooked etc and then
called a son in another State. The whole affair was orgastrated
by two sides of the family. They are both being cared for and
at last info one of the husband's kids was in the home/trust. The kicker on this is that they owed over 100k on credit cards
for living expenses..... Anyone against Universal care and gauranteed income now?
