QUESTION: Gary is a small town just south of Carthage, Texas in Panola County
where my parents lived. I's before you get to Tenneha, Timpson, Bobo and
Blair, all in Panola County. There was a "Ritter's store there that
served the community. The Ritters had a son that turned out to be a
country singer and movie star. The son was called "Tex" I met his
daughter. Tommie (Ritter) Smith, the president of the Texas Country
Music Hall of Fame a few days ago. I was visiting my Mother who is in
the Greenbriar Nursing Home in Carthage. By the way; she was 96 years
old on the 29th of March.
There also was another family called Reeves in that area that had a son
called Jim who was my Brother-in-Law (Wesley Barnett's) cousin. Wesley
is a retired banker and the only time he sang was in a Minstral Show or
our family get-togethers. (got some on reel_to_reel). Well, they were
both in a singing contest when they were young and Wesley came out the
winner. (He can do a mean rendition of the "Talkin' Blues").
Jay (Oh yeah, I'm lookin' at a scrap of paper that says "My best to you,
Jay" Willie Nelson; and another under that that says, "Good Luck, Jay"
Ray Price. My sister Margaret got them to do that for me when they were
at the Hall a while back.
