Does anyone know the steps I need to go through to get Medi-Cal to
assist me
with In Home Nursing Care?
QUESTION: I have been taking care of my mother for about 2 yrs. in my home. Recently,
it looks
like she fell and hit her head. Went to emergency and ended up in ICU.
They said
it was a brain hemmorage. Anyway, she was able to go to the bathroom and
feed
herself before this happened. Now she needs assistance. I live in North
Hollywood,
CA. Does anyone know the steps I need to go through to get Medi-Cal to
assist me
with In Home Nursing Care? Any information would be much appreciated.
ANSWER: hi: my name is ruth. first i would ask the question, how old is your
mother, and is she eligible for medicare.? i live in new york city. here
when someone who is eligible for medicare is hospitalized the hospitals
here generally have a social worker who makes the arrangements to have a
r.n. visit the home of the patient. the nurse then determines if
assistance is needed and contact home health agency to have a home
health aide come in for a few hours a day. it depends upon how ill the
patient is and. medicare pays for these services until the r.n.
determines that they are no longer called for. this is a problem that i
believe is country wide. i am sorry to say you are going to have to
fight tooth and nail to get what you will need for your mother. i
suggest you start with your doctor( who i am almost sure will say, he
doesnt know how the system works) then a social worker at the hospital
where she was a patient or, even if she is home now, see or talk to the
social worker who was assigned to her case while a patient. i hope this
is a begining for you. this site is a site that is very seldom used. i
have been trying to find other, but havent so far. i check this site
out at least 2x daily. post another so i know how you make out.
