Has anyone heard about Medicare Assisted Living?
QUESTION: My father (82) is very frail with a weak heart and my mother (80) has
alzheimers and fainting spells where her blood pressure drops dramatically.
She has been to the hospital during these episodes but as soon as she's
lying flat she's okay. She's on coumadin, has a pace maker and taking
betapace and aricept..... and that's about the extent of help from medical
science. They have been living in "assisted living" and the "assisted" part
has dropped off dramatically so we are moving them in with us. We found a
house with no steps and a nice view but no shower! We have to remodel the
bathroom to provide a shower (ideally with wheelchair access). The bathroom
is very small and the big shower modules won't fit and the builders are
booked until January .... so that's why we're thinking of doing the work
ourselves. Does anyone know about medicare reimbursement for help with this
kind of thing? Any links or info would be greatly appreciated and we'll
pass along our progress (positive thinking here) to the group. Thanks. Oh
yeah, everytime my dad gets a shower he says that he feels like life is
worth living! He has been just about the primary caregiver for my mom. Has
anyone heard about Deprenyl?
ANSWER: This is a New yourk site but this particular page is links to
local area Medicare information contacts
http://hiicap.state.ny.us/home/link08.htm#links My own site has just a few links but I've found them to be most
useful. There's links to a couple drug data bases (neither of
which listed Deprenyl).

An Abstract
http://www.biacore.com/scientific/556.html I got 90 returns from a hotbot search. The available info seems to be
from the early 90s. I think it's by persription as an anti-aging
chemical but not in the US. It's original function appears to have
benefited Parkinson's victims. There are a number of the same of meds
good to treat Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. What's it also known as?
Selanine? Something like that. I think I'll ask dad's neurologist
about it. Good luck. Sounds as if you're going to have your hands full.
