QUESTION: Father in law has now decided that he will never go back to his own home and
will remain in a Nursing home, so his bungalow is being sold. So the last
few weeks have been quite traumatic as we have been sorting out all his
belongings. Today we had to go and sort out all the furniture ready to be
sold in an auction. Seems really sad that he wont see any of it again.
Also all the ornaments etc had to be divided up between families.
Fortunately there were no arguments as to who had what. But it was not a
very happy task.
ANSWER: It is indeed a hard thing to do with so many memories. Last June we moved my
in-laws in with us. We kept up their bungalow, cut the grass etc. In about
October, my father-in-law went into a nursing home locally, he died there
just before Christmas. My mother-in-law had already signed the bungalow over to us about ten years
ago, but we decided it was time to sell it. My wife and I moved the bits out
every now and then, (strange how some peoples possessions are never worth
anything these days) and every time my wife went she cried. We finally sold the bungalow last month, but whenever we drive past we can't
help getting a little thump in the stomach!
