Who were the racial villification laws created for was it just
for the benefit of a few specific races, and or groups in the
community?
QUESTION: On "A Current Affair" about two weeks ago they ran a story about
some residents who were being kicked out because the new owners
who bought the place did not want them there as they were not
dutch and they only wanted to care for dutch people. According
to the story they said it was not illegal for them to do this. But isn't this story racial since the nursing home owners are
discriminating against the due to the race that in this case
they are not part of? Who were the racial villification laws created for was it just
for the benefit of a few specific races, and or groups in the
community?
ANSWER: Well, it's my opinion that the race *discrimination* laws (as opposed to the
racial vilification laws) clearly prohibit this conduct. There are
exceptions, but they have to be proved before HREOC. Simple tenancy laws would have a bearing here too. Of course I'm not a lawyer. But I'd bet if it went to court, the owners
would be thrashed.
