QUESTION: Clear DayThis is my second time posting to this group. My dad is back in
the hospital again. This time he was sent to a hospital that specializes in
wound care. While he was in a nursing home he has developed bedsores that
have went to the hipbone. The sad thing about this is that he has been in
this nursing home for only three months and has had to be hospitalized twice
for pneumonia and now this. On his last admission the hospital staff took
photos . My stepmother was reassured that better care would be given, he
would be turned etc. My concern is that if this has happened to him, what
about others in that facility. This place did not appear to be the "type"
that would neglect their residents- but I guess appearances can be
deceiving. We have just found out that he is a type2 diabetic along with
all of his other problems.
For me this is frustrating since I live so far away- I am in TX and he is in
IL. My stepmother says that she is going to contact a lawyer. My question
for any you who have been dealing with Alzheimer's- what are the regulatory
agencies either federal or in the state of IL. that we might contact-
Our goal is that my dad gets the care he needs and that others do not have
to suffer this abuse as well
ANSWER: Go to this site and click on the state in which your father resides,
then look for the name of his nursing home. I am not defending the
nursing home, but I do think some people are more prone to bed sores
than others. Is this a skilled care facility or just a custodial care
place? Isn't there a doctor on staff who checks him out at least once
every two weeks or a nurse practitioner? Maybe your mother has some
relatives or friends who could check this place out just to see what
they think. Of course not telling who they are. http://www.consumerreports.org/Special/Samples/Reports/0101nrs0.html
