Anyone know how you find out how good or bad a
facility is? Do they have ratings?
QUESTION: My brother who is indigent and who has had a stroke has been assigned to a
nursing home in NY. I live in Florida. I intend to visit him in the
facility, but before I get a chance to do that, I'd like to know some
history about the place. Anyone know how you find out how good or bad a
facility is? Do they have ratings? Are there state records that might be
available as to complaints? Is it something that could be investigated via
the Net? Any leads would be appreciated.
ANSWER: About a year ago I saw a book in a local bookstore that had an extensive
listing of nursing homes. I do not recall the name or anything but it
was about two inches thick and included a short evaluation of many
nursing homes. I flipped through the book to see if it had information
on local nursing homes that I was familiar with and it did include these
homes. I assume it had a goodly percentage of the homes nationwide.
The information is available but I did not give you much help in finding
it.
