Is there a requirement that the nursing home must display the staffing level
notification from the health authority if not can you get this info from the
health authority?
QUESTION: Many nursing home managers appear to be of the opinion that they can ignore
minimum staffing levels when it is convenient to do so (usually trying to
cut their agency nursing bills at night).
I am aware of a rule that there should be 1 staff to 20 patients, anyone
know where to prove this?

ANSWER: I am aware of a rule that there should be 1 staff to 20 patients, anyone
know where to prove this?
Is there a requirement that the nursing home must display the staffing level
notification from the health authority if not can you get this info from the
health authority? The Registering Authority will issue the Home with a staffing notice, and
anyone may get a copy of the notice, It does not have to be on display but
should be shown should a member of the public or the inspecting authority
ask for it. As an individual member of staff can you report critical shortages of
staffing to the health authority? You can report any thing youlike to the Nursing home Inspectorate
Department of your Local Health Authority, and they usually investigate all
complaints, how ever trivial they seem, but be wary of back lash from your
employer. Make sure you have your facts right before you speak!
Can a Level 2 nurse (old style EN) be left in charge of an 60 bed nursing
home at night? This argument goes on and on! Every nurse is accountable for their own
actions, and the person registered in charge of the home, must be satisfied
that the EN is capable of running the home in his/her absence.
