QUESTION: I would like to know how many in this group believe there is an
environmental problem and what cities they live near. I live about 30 minutes out of Dallas, and I have extreme
breathing problems in the heat, from exhaust fumes. Often get headache
in heavy traffic. Wheeze and have Asthma attacks when it is really bad. I consider putting schools, hospitals, Senior Care Facilities, and Prisons
on and near major traffic arteries criminal! The exhaust fumes have been
proven to cause "road rage" . Prolonged exposure to combustion fumes
have produced extreme agitation in long distance drivers. It may well be that
much of the violence in the inner cities, and society is caused by combustion
products, with major airports, and space launches being the hishest
contributors, while the driving public pays through the nose, with their
life blood. If you don't believe me try driving in Atlanta or Houston for five hours, and
completely around the towns in rush hour and high temperatures.
ANSWER: I believe there is enviormental polution and unfortunatly you cannot
leave to the businesses, cities and individuals to correct it themselves. My reasoning is thus. If a large corporation decides to adopt the
expense of manufacturing with standards that a 'good for the enviorment'
and the conconment expenses therfore without laws another smaller or same
size company can then undercut them by using cheaper methods. Laws make
for a level playing field. It is true that sometimes this is corrupted
also but it is the only option and requires attention. We hear complains that big business takes thier manufacturing
processes to countries that do not practise * any * enviormental
controls. This is true. They poisen their own portion of the world and
contribute to the overall problem. However the main cost factor that
industry pursues in the wage differential. Tho I don't claim to understand
the laws involved those who are better informed than I claim there is a
sweetheart situation vis-a-vis American Companies and out of the country
manufacturing. As we becomes poluted with overpopulation we need to keep a very
hard eye on the protection of our enviorment.
