Have others found this to be true with their Senior Adult Day Care?
QUESTION: We've had very good luck with getting my FIL to accept going to the "senior
center" several times a week. In fact, if we could afford it, I think he'd
go every day! His functional level is considerably higher for THEM than it
is for us. Have others found this to be true with their LO?
Also, we found this day care arrangement quite by accident. It's really an
ALF that takes day patients. We don't live anywhere near a real adult day
care facility, so this is a blessing. If you are in a similar situation I
would suggest calling some of the ALF near you to see if they would make
similar arrangements. This one will take him overnight for a 3 day respite
if we want, also.
He eats better there than at home, socializes, and gets more exercise than
we could get him to do.
All around, it has been wonderful so far.
Keeping my fingers crossed,
ANSWER: Daycare has been an absolute Godsend for us. I don't know if I could have
ever managed it without daycare. I literally count the minutes till that
bus comes in the morning. And yes, Ida functions better there than at
home. She is forced to be outgoing, and to function socially. At home
she just lays around and complains or whines. Daycare gets her out of the house, she dresses up, they go places, and do
things every day. It definitely has been good for her mentally. Ida has
always suffered from crushing depression as long as I know her, and when she
wasn't depressed, she was nasty. All of these things have evened out since
she is going to daycare and on the right medication at the right time and
living with us. But how much of it is only the daycare I couldn't tell you exactly. It is a
package, and it is working well with all its elements.
