QUESTION: I have recently moved in with my mother to help take care of her.
She's relatively self sufficient, but has on several occasions fallen
or gotten sick and there are some things that are difficult for her to
do. Once we moved in, we came to realize that she rarely eats, sleeps
far too much and is generally inactive about 90% of her day. She
suffers from a disease called scleroderma among the other usual things
such as high blood pressure, glaucoma, osteoporosis and arthitis.
I know there is AARP that offers a good bit of information, but i'd
like to find other sources that will help me find the information that
I need to make sure that my mother is getting the best care she can
have as well as any programs that help with the cost of some of the
medication and even help with the psycological aspects of growing
older and losing many basic freedoms like driving a car etc.
ANSWER: I am 85 years old, and have many health problems, which keep
me relatively inactive.
Have you contacted the Elder Services for information? Or your local
Senior Centre; both should have plenty of useful references for you. I
think those contacts would be more useful for you than AARP.===Lotte
